I Veneti Antichi
— Riding the Myth

Role: Composer Format: Documentary Year: 2025 Director: Tommaso Giusto Production: Akeron Film

I Veneti Antichi – Riding the Myth is a historical docu-film directed by Tommaso Giusto and produced by Akeron Film, dedicated to the ancient Veneti civilization and their mythic and cultural imagination.

I composed the music for the battle sequences and the ritual banquet scenes, working on two distinct registers: on one side a tighter, more rhythmic writing to support the conflict, on the other a more ceremonial and evocative musical framework for communal moments.

The score accompanies the cinematic reconstructions, reinforcing the epic tone of the story while maintaining narrative clarity and an educational purpose.

Action · 04:59
Goal
Hold a clear rhythmic spine for the edit, give the clashes weight, and keep the cue readable so the educational tone stays intact.
Result
The scene feels kinetic but intelligible. The rhythm stays locked to the edit, the clashes land with weight, and the narration still reads cleanly.
Delivery
Final mix plus a lighter percussion alternate, clearly labelled.
Context
Reconstruction of the battle with the Spartans, built on fast cuts and long battlefield wides. The sequence needs drive without turning into a modern action trailer, and it must leave space for historical narration and sound design.
Music in/out
00:00Wide battlefield shot, pulse enters.
02:06First clash, brass and percussion lock to cuts.
04:59Aftermath wide, cue releases into sustain.
Wanted
Drive and clarity. A historical tone with orchestral weight, but never trailer-style.
Avoid
Wall-to-wall percussion, oversized hits, or music that masks narration.
Final choice
B
Options tested
  • A: Percussion-only pulse. Too dry and not enough identity.
  • B: Low strings pulse, brass calls on shifts, full orchestra only at the first clash.
  • C: Full orchestral wall from the start. Overwhelming and flattened the dynamics.

What they say about the work

"Meeting Pietro was crucial, without him we would never have been able to accomplish it."
